Ryan Lauer will serve as chairman of the Bartholomew County Council in 2014.
In 2007, just two years after he moved to Columbus, the Cummins engineer was honored for his leadership in a campaign to raise $35,000 to keep the popular “Eos” statue in the city.
Lauer, 36, surprised many local political insiders by defeating incumbent Sue Paris in the Republican primary in May 2010. Six months later, he was uncontested in his bid to win the District 3 council seat during the general election.
During their organizational meeting earlier this week, council members also chose Evelyn Strietelmeier Pence as council president pro tem. Pence has served on the council since 1980.
The council reappointed Chris Monroe as its attorney for another year.
Don't settle for a preview.
