To the editor:
As the wind howls, snow blows and sleet/freezing rain hits against our windows, you can hear the sound of the brave soldiers of the state, county and city highway/street departments fighting their latest battle with Mother Nature. The public owes these people a large round of gratitude for doing their usually thankless job. Most of the comments made about the snowplows are to criticize them for putting snow back in your driveway.
Would you like to spend long hours in these trucks, driving on dangerously slick roads? To drive any size truck over some Bartholomew County roads when the snow is blowing and you cannot see past the front of your truck would make me extremely frightened. But these brave people do it without hesitation.
My family and I say “thank you” for taking on this task. We feel everyone should applaud you for all your great work this winter. So, the next time you hear a snowplow driving by your home or you get behind one on the highway/street, instead of getting upset, smile and say thanks.
