I have power-of-attorney for a man who was recently scammed by a charity called Police Protection Fund. The TV news channel in Indianapolis said there were numerous complaints about it for collecting funds for Officer Rod Bradway, who was recently killed.
The call was made from a phone number in Florida, but Visa said it was registered using an address in Hollywood, Calif.
Someone hung up when I called. Since it had his credit card number, I had no choice but to cancel the card and have it reissued.
No one should give donations using a credit card, even to a well-known organization, since you have no idea who imitates the call.
Protect your credit card number as you do your Social Security number.
