Columbus lost a good doctor and a great man Sunday, and I am going to miss Bob Allen. He was a friend and a mentor, and I cannot believe he is gone. Seventeen years ago when I first moved here, there was this bombastic surgeon who was loud, intimidating and had an opinion about everything.
Honestly, I tried to avoid him. But over the course of the next several years, it became obvious that behind Bob’s façade was a big, kind-hearted man who knew everyone and was willing to help anyone.
He clearly cared deeply about his patients and his family, and I admired him for that. He started to do more away from the hospital, and we kind of grew apart, but I will never forget him and what he has done for me. Thank you, Bobbie, and I am sure I will see you later at the temple.
