From: Nellie Meek
Some of you might remember my husband, Buck Meek. It has been almost four years since cancer took his life. Many years ago Buck started working as a reserve deputy for the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department. He already had a full-time job with Cummins, so only did this a few hours a week. A young man named Todd Noblitt came on as a reserve during those early years. Even then, when Noblitt was a very young man, Buck was impressed with him, with his character, honesty and his work ethic. Buck always spoke highly of him.
Noblitt went on the be a full-time officer, so he and Buck still worked together sometimes and remained friends. I remember Buck telling me many years ago to someday expect to see Noblitt as our sheriff. He thought Noblitt had what it took to be a great sheriff. As the years went by Noblitt went through the ranks and advanced in the department to be the No. 1 deputy under our current sheriff. Buck was so happy to see this happen. He was happy for his young friend and for the people in our county.
During Buck’s last couple of months, he talked to me and to our sons about Noblitt and asked that we help with his campaign. Since I also agreed Noblitt should be our next sheriff, it was easy for me to tell him yes, I would be happy to do whatever I could.
After knowing Noblitt for more than 25 years, Buck never changed his opinions. He still believed Noblitt would be an excellent sheriff. Buck had inside knowledge of how he handled his job and how he treated people. Over all of these years he had only good things to say about Noblitt. I know if he was here today he would be one of Noblitt’s biggest supporters.
Today it is an honor for me to ask for your vote for Noblitt for sheriff of Bartholomew County. He is a wonderful Christian man who will serve and be fair to all. He is tough enough to enforce the law and protect the people in our county. Over the years he has worked hard toward this position. He is a very intelligent man who knows the job and everything it entails. I don’t think anyone, other than our current sheriff, could know more about the needs of our county.
Thank you for taking time to read this letter. Please join me in supporting Todd Noblitt.
