It was heartening to read the Spotlight Letter from Mayor Kristen Brown in The Republic on Wednesday (Dec. 18).

Given that partisanship, conflict and gridlock have become the norm between political parties at the federal and state level, I appreciated the public acknowledgment from our esteemed mayor to the distinguished members of the Redevelopment Committee, The Commons Board and the City Council for their collaboration in working with City Hall to achieve a positive, thoughtful outcome for our city.

My compliments to all for the way in which you landed Jordy McTaggart’s Grill & Pub as the new tenant in our Commons.

Perhaps this is a sign for the dawning of a new day. Perhaps our city will become known for the extraordinary way in which our local elected officials work together and bridge differences for the best interests of our community, another intriguing way for Columbus, Indiana, to truly become “Different by Design.”
