Columbus

I am writing as a lifelong resident of Bartholomew County to advocate for the election of Todd Noblitt as the Republican candidate for county sheriff in the May primary.

I have known Noblitt for more than 20 years. Long ago we attended the same church, and I have always appreciated his consistent actions, demeanor and integrity. I have had the benefit of observing him both on and off duty and am impressed with his character, his consistent display of kindness, respect and compassion, regardless of the situation or circumstance.

And although these are admirable qualities for any candidate, there are additional skills he has acquired over the course of his career that separate him from the pack as not only an attractive candidate, but distinguish him as the perfect fit for the office.

Noblitt possesses the distinction of serving under not only the current sheriff, Mark Gorbett, but former sheriffs Kenny Whipker and David Mann as well. He has received promotion at each and every stage of his lengthy and decorated career from volunteer reserve all the way to second in command as chief deputy.

In his current role as chief deputy, Noblitt has gained unique executive experience in the day-to-day operation of the department that no other candidate can claim.

He knows intimately the intricacies of the department as well as how to frugally build and administer a department budget. He has learned through valuable experience how each component and resource of the department must operate and be utilized, being promoted and personally performing duties at every personnel category and station.

Noblitt understands well, and demonstrates daily, the reality that a sheriff can ill afford a myopic view of law enforcement for the city of Columbus only, but must reach out to encompass the entire county. And he has shown through his career and by his service to the county that rural and outlying areas, although perhaps more challenging, are a priority and as entitled to exemplary law enforcement as those areas that lie within city limits.

The field has no shortage of proficient law enforcement professionals vying for the position of sheriff, but Bartholomew County deserves more than just a competent professional. This county will be best served by selecting an officer who is already well-versed, through personal training and experience, in each of the peculiarities and at every level of the county sheriff’s department.

Finally, Noblitt is the only candidate who can come into office the first day ready to hit the ground running. He has been tested and prepared by gaining a wealth of previous assignments and experience.

For these reasons, I support Todd Noblitt as the next sheriff of Bartholomew County, and I trust when considering qualifications, merit and experience that you will as well.
