The suggestion to cut hours of part-time workers in local government jobs to avoid paying them health insurance is absurd. If they cut hours to avoid the insurance, then what’s the result? It’s those people paying less income tax and having less dollars to put into the economy, and possibly some, I hate to say, may qualify for government assistance, for which those of us who are so blessed with full-time jobs with benefits end up paying the tab.
It does not make sense. Call it the federal Affordable Care Act if you will, but I call it “Obamacare.” So if I’m going to pay additional taxes either way, I would feel better knowing people are working and receiving health care. Oh, and wait until 2014 and beyond when additional “Obamacare” laws kick in. My prayer is that such action does not take place in our community.
