This is the least productive Congress in history and the most despised. Todd Young and his tea party brethren have successfully blocked any meaningful legislation, including the farm bill and the immigration bill. Both of these bills passed the Senate with help from Republicans and support by the president but were dead on arrival in the tea party-controlled House. Instead the House passed a punitive farm bill that eliminated money for food stamps but heaped billions of subsidies on millionaire agribusinesses.
Luckily this mean-spirited measure has no chance to become law. They opted not even to bring the Senate compromise immigration bill up for a vote in the House. One congressman quipped, “If we bring it up, it would likely pass.” God forbid they should actually pass a law supported by Democrats, Republicans, big business, labor and the American people. Instead they passed a repeal of Obamacare for the 40th time and then returned home to tell us how hard they have been working to solve our problems.
Eighty percent of the public is disgusted and disapproves of the Republicans in Congress. Don’t reward them with a return to office and a $174,000 salary for doing nothing. Let’s put people in office who will compromise, get things done and solve our problems.
