I’ve never written a letter to the editor, although I was born in Columbus and have lived here most of my life. The terrible shooting in Newtown, Conn., disturbs me deeply.

I believe that now is the time for America to enact meaningful gun control legislation. How many more children and innocent people having their lives cut short by disturbed individuals with assault weapons will it take before we stand up and support legislation to curb the gun lobby?

I own two shotguns and enjoyed hunting in my youth. I took a shooting skills course in college and was certified by the NRA as an instructor in the mid-1970s. For me at the time, that was about hunting and enjoying the outdoors with my dad and friends, not hunting innocent people.

I think it is time to stand up for what you believe on this subject, and I urge you to share your views with your elected representatives.

Think your friends should see this? Share it with them!
