As I listened to the news and read my newspaper this morning, a thought came to me. We have a great country here. It was founded upon the idea of freedom of religion.

We have fought wars and sent our sons and daughters to far places of the world in an effort to give others the same freedom, the freedom to practice their own religion. At the same time we Christians are telling our own countrymen of different faiths and those Christians who belong to denominations other than ours that this or that is what we believe, so we demand laws to protect our beliefs.

Has it ever occurred to us that the Founding Fathers meant freedom of religion to practice what each of us believes? Are we sending our children to die trying to give others that right all the while we are morphing into a society that says, “This is what I believe so I am going to make sure you live by my rules because my religion says so. I have that right, and you don’t.”

Is this what we have become?
