I have been reading the bleating of the writers regarding our rights for a while and thought I would add my 2 cents. I submit that the Second Amendment is an easy target for people who do not want to address the major issues that are facing our country and that drive gun violence. In our own county children are living in poverty, and parents cannot make a living wage. The elderly are put in positions where they have to decide if they buy food or their medication. We have a state government that puts big business and the 1 percent ahead of the middle class by giving generous tax breaks and special loopholes.

I believe that if we want to move forward as a state and nation we should address the underlying problems, and we have many. I can only speak for myself and say that I am a safe and responsible concealed carry gun owner and NRA member. I do not always agree with the leadership of the NRA, but it is a national voice for one of the most important features of the Bill of Rights. I submit that if we work on making our country a better place to live, the rest will take care of itself. I intend to keep doing my part, and I hope the rest of the country will do the same.
