Hello, I am working today, but could I have just a minute or two of your time?
You see, I hang here every day; some days I work harder than others; it all depends on how the wind blows, and guess what, I haven’t missed a day’s work in many, many years.
I never get to rest, no breaks, or coffee times either. Yes, I am just like you; I have feelings and, yes, I cry a lot lately. Every time one of our men or women die as a result of war I cry. I have cried so much lately, over 4,000 I have cried for, so much my tears are red coming from my red stripes. Please don’t make me cry more.
Lift your head and look up; there I am, your American flag.
Has it been some time since you took a good look at me?
Yes, it’s me; I am still here, and fluttering just so you will hear me and maybe look up instead of down.
