With all the locations to drop off material for recycling, it would seem that to use property tax money to fund curbside pickup is a misuse of property tax money. Anyone who wants to recycle can do so.

Before property tax money is used for that purpose, the city needs to find a way to remove the fire protection charge that is on the city water and sewer bill. Fire protection is for the purpose of protecting property. Therefore, property taxes should pay for fire protection, not water users. Under the present system anyone renting a home and paying his own water and sewer bill is, in effect, paying to protect his landlord’s property.

So city officials, please remove the fire protection fee from the water and sewer bill before using property tax money for an unnecessary service.
