Swifty gas stations have closed, leaving many people in Columbus in a lurch. Columbus needs at least one station that will pump gas for customers.

Many who are handicapped cannot pump their own gas. Many elderly and arthritic people cannot hold onto the pump handle. Perhaps a young mother does not want to leave her children unattended in the car. Many widows have never pumped gas. Then there are folks who just want one less to-do on their list.

This past winter was brutal, and I am grateful a station had attendants there to pump my gas for me. So I got busy and made some phone calls. Here are some stations that will pump gas for you (if you require special assistance). You only have to call and ask. Here is a short list:

Marathon at Eighth and Washington streets, 375-9630.

Village Pantry at National Road and Washington Street, before 6 p.m., 376-8505.

Speedway, Jonathan Moore Pike, only when at least two employees are on duty, 372-8628.

Call your favorite gas station and ask, and you might just be surprised. Tips are always appreciated.
