Jim Bickel actually gave us an insight of a new mentality being formed in our free-enterprise system. Predation is the new way to describe competition. The mayor recently got a taste of this, too, when some businesses downtown chose to view outdoor street vendors in similar fashion.

It used to be no matter what business you started, the most useful and valuable thing one could offer was simply good service to those you planned on doing business with. Of course, good service requires a good attitude. Kind of like looking at the glass either being half-full or half-empty. The ones with a poor attitude would naturally call competition predatory.

One might be inclined to think with that kind of attitude, and an unwillingness to cooperate in a true free-enterprise system, the service probably follows the same path.
