I have lived in Columbus since I was 12 years old, and few events since then have made me more proud of this town, my town, than Saturday’s Mill Race Marathon.
Serving as one of the hundreds of volunteers, I was in a position along the course to be able to hear comments from many runners and walkers. With a few exceptions, the comments were amazingly positive. Most
participants could not believe that this was the first marathon held in Columbus. The preparations, planning, organization and input from the community were better, they said, than from many communities that had held marathons for years.
Congratulations to all who were involved in the massive task of preparing this event. Congratulations to the many sponsors, the hundreds who volunteered, the thousands who turned out to cheer the participants on, and the thousands who ran and walked to achieve their individual goals.
Columbus, you most definitely achieved your goal. Congratulations from a proud resident.
