Bartholomew County Council member Ryan Lauer announced he would run against Milo Smith for Indiana state representative of District 59 in the upcoming Republican primary election.

His stated reason is that he believes “Republicans deserve to have a choice in this upcoming election as to who should represent us at the Statehouse.” Smith lobbied for the HJR-3 (gay marriage amendment) to go to his committee and passed it out of committee to a full house vote 9-3, along party lines. My question to Lauer is what choice does he offer?

Indiana House Republican leader Brian Bosma said an “overwhelming” majority of House Republicans had told him they want the opportunity to vote on the proposed amendment. Does Lauer intend to be another Bosma yes-man? How would he vote on HJR-3? What sort of choice will Indiana District 59 have?
