City council to tackle pay proposals at meeting
The Columbus City Council will consider setting 2014 employee salaries at its Tuesday meeting.
No information was available Friday from Mayor Kristen Brown on the details of her pay proposal for city employees and elected officials.
The council also will consider a resolution to adopt a neighborhood revitalization plan for the Ninth Street Park area and the final approval of a proposal to add money to the fire department budget for overtime pay.
The council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall Council Chambers, 123 Washington St.
closing for Labor Day
Most government offices will be closed Monday due to the Labor Day holiday. Among the holiday closings and delays:
n City and county offices will be closed.
n Bartholomew County Commissioners will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Governmental Office Building’s commissioners chambers, 440 Third St., instead of Monday.
n City trash, brush and compost routes will run a day behind schedule, including special pickups. Friday routes will run on Saturday.
n Columbus City Utilities office will be closed Monday. For problems with water or sewer service, call 372-8861 and follow the prompts.
n All Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicle branches will be closed Monday.
Indonesian-Sri Lankan cooking class Tuesday
A cooking class and demonstration, sponsored by the Columbus Food Co-op, will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at North Christian Church, 850 Tipton Lane, Columbus.
Parames Charan will give a lesson about Indonesian-Sri Lankan cooking by showing how to make steamed lentil dumplings, carrot and cashew rice, egg marsala and steamed coconut dumplings.
This will be a mix of demonstration and hands-on cooking with a meal afterwards. Space is limited. Register by emailing SaraBeth Drybread at email@example.com or by calling 343-3588. Cost is a suggested donation of $5.
