Career fair Wednesday at Columbus Learning Center

Forty organizations, all with openings for careers and internships, will participate in the Career & Internship Fair 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Columbus Learning Center, 4555 Central Ave.

The public is invited to the free event, sponsored by Purdue College of Technology, IUPUC and Ivy Tech Community College — Columbus/Franklin.

Heritage Fund awards challenge grant

The Heritage Fund Community Foundation of Bartholomew County has awarded a challenge grant of $25,000 to the Bartholomew County Humane Society for the community room of the society’s planned, new animal shelter.

The grant is a dollar-for-dollar matching gift, according to a news release. The society already has raised 61 percent of the money needed to receive the Heritage Fund donation.

Others who want to help meet the challenge can mail donations to the humane society at P.O. Box 1088, Columbus, IN 47202.

Radio-controlled planes flying into annual event

The Bartholomew County RC Fliers will have their fifth annual Cheer Fund Charity Fly-In from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday to raise money for the Columbus Firemen’s Cheer Fund.

The location is three miles east of Columbus on 25th Street, at the closed landfill.

Radio-controlled airplanes and helicopters are welcome. The event is sanctioned by the Academy of Model Aeronautics, and an AMA card is required.

The event will include raffles, prizes and food for purchase. A $10 landing fee includes lunch and a raffle ticket.
