North girls basketball wins 2 in Maryland
The Columbus North girls basketball team won both its games Thursday on the opening day of the Best of Maryland Tournament in Damascus, Md.
Tayler Goodall scored 16 points, and Ali Patberg added 11 in a 53-34 afternoon win over Berlin (Ohio) Hiland. Ten of North’s 11 players scored.
Patberg scored 18 points, and Kelsey Cunningham added 11 in a 43-30 evening victory over Prince Frederick (Md.) Calvert.
“That game was really closer than the final score,” North coach Pat McKee said. “We did not play our best basketball. It shows the character of this group to win by 13 and not play well.”
The Bull Dogs will play Holmdel (N.J.) St. John Vianney (1-1) at 2:15 p.m. today and Washington (D.C.) St. John’s College (2-0) at 7:15 p.m. today. The top two teams in each of four pools make Saturday’s championship bracket, while the rest will play in a consolation game.
