Two local dancers have been selected to appear Wednesday at the Savory Garden Health Corps Gala at New York City’s Waldorf Astoria hotel.
Madison Stanton and Melissa Denney, both 16 and students of Sonya’s Dance Zone in Columbus, were selected during an audition at the Dynamite National Talent Competition earlier this year.
Stanton and Denney are among 11 dancers from across the country selected to perform at the event. After about 11 hours of rehearsal, Stanton and Denney will perform with a mix of other Dynamite Competition participants and Broadway dancers in a show that is a mix of Broadway, jazz and Latin.
Most of their New York trip will be spent in rehearsals for the gala show, hosted by television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz. The show seeks to bring awareness to childhood obesity.
