Northside volleyball tryouts begin Monday

Northside Middle School will have volleyball tryouts Monday and Tuesday.

Eighth-grade tryouts are from 1 to 3 p.m., and seventh-grade tryouts are 3 to 5:30 p.m. If needed, the seventh-grade tryouts might extend additional days.

Athletes must have a current physical on file at the main office or give it to the coaches before the first tryout. Practice begins Wednesday.

Central Middle School

Central Middle School volleyball tryouts will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday.

Northside cross-country

 practice to begin Monday

Northside Middle School cross-country practice begins at 3:15 p.m. Monday and will continue from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. all week.

Tennis clinic offered for middle-school athletes

A Fun Tennis Clinic will be from 4:45 to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the Lincoln Park tennis courts for boys and girls entering seventh or eighth grade at Northside or St. Bartholomew schools who are interested in playing the sport.

Players should bring a racquet and water.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, a brief informational meeting will be conducted about boys tennis at Northside. Tryouts for the Northside boys tennis team will be from 4:45 to 6 p.m. Aug. 4 to 7. Players should make sure physical form is turned in by Aug. 4.

Edinburgh girls basketball teams raising funds

The Edinburgh girls basketball teams will host a Lia Sophia Jewelry Fundraising Party, Hoop It Up, at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the high school auxiliary gym.

The event is open to the public. Those unable to attend can visit and type in “Lady Lancers” as hostess.

Flag football tournament to benefit Compton family

The Compton Family Benefit Preseason Tourney will be at 9 a.m. Aug. 3 for men’s 7-on-7 and women’s 4-on-4 flag football teams.

East girls to host Orange Dash, Orange Challenge

The Columbus East girls cross-country team will host the Orange Dash 5K Run/Walk and 1-mile Orange Challenge at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Mill Race Park tower.

Cost is $25 for the Orange Dash and includes a T-shirt if registered by Wednesday, $7 for the Orange Challenge or $30 for both.

Blazers offering tryouts for several age groups

The Indiana Blazers will conduct tryouts for its 13U, 14U and 15U baseball teams Sunday at Clifty Park.

Tryouts will be at 10 a.m. for the 15U team and 1 p.m. for the 13U and 14U squads. A $10 tryout fee will be charged to cover field rental.

State 5K championships scheduled for summer

USA Track and Field will host the Indiana Association 5K Championship on Aug. 23 at St. Maria Goretti Church

in Westfield.

There will be championships for youth, open and masters, with $2,000 in prize money awarded for the open and masters winners. For more information about

Fall event to feature golf, ATV and motorcycle rides

The Harmon Group’s Joy of Giving Fall Event will be Sept. 20 with a golf tournament and ATV and motorcycle rides.

The golf tournament will be at noon at St. Anne’s. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. Cost is $500.

The ATV ride will be from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning at Sand Creek Elementary. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. Cost is $30 for a single rider or $50 for a couple.

The motorcycle ride will

be from noon to 4 p.m. beginning at Mann’s Harley-Davidson in Edinburgh. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. Cost is $30 for a single rider or $50 for a couple.

The events will conclude with a dinner at 5 p.m. at St. Anne’s. Cost for dinner only

is $10 for adults, $5 for children and free for children age 2 and younger.
