A Columbus woman is listed in fair condition after being hit by a vehicle during the Fourth of July holiday.
Sylvia W. Kiel, 75, 13250 S. Jonesville Road, was crossing Central Avenue from the Circle K gas station at 7:48 p.m. Friday when a vehicle westbound on 17th Street turning south on Central hit her in the intersection, Columbus Police Department spokesman Lt. Matt Myers said.
Three vehicles were traveling west on 17th Street with the green arrow to turn south on Central when the accident occurred, Myers said.
The first vehicle narrowly missed Kiel and a second vehicle, a 1999 Dodge Dakota driven by Jennifer E. Manhart, 36, 1923 Caldwell Place, struck Kiel in the intersection, Myers said.
The driver of the vehicle behind Manhart told police that Kiel walked into the path of Manhart’s vehicle, Myers said.
The driver that went through the intersection first told police that Manhart could not have avoided striking the pedestrian.
Kiel suffered possible internal injuries, scrapes and cuts and was flown by helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment, Myers said.
The other drivers were not injured.
