COLUMBUS, Ind. — Award winners have been announced for the Martin Luther King Jr. essay and poetry contests in Columbus, which explore students' understanding of what the holiday that honors the late civil rights leader means.
In the poetry contest for students in fourth through sixth grades, Taylor Reann Ingram earned first place, Arnaz Jain placed second and Madison Holmes finished third.
In the essay contest for students in seventh through 12th grades, Camryn Morris earned first place, Emma Lavelle finished second and Elizabeth Pevlor placed third.
