Man airlifted after Hayden explosion, fire

A Seymour man was airlifted to a trauma center with severe burns after an explosion in a field in Hayden.

An employee at a business near County Road 600W and Base Road in Jennings County called authorities shortly after noon Wednesday after a man had walked in with severe burns on the face, hands and chest, according to a report from Jennings County Sheriff’s Department.

Police found a field nearby where an explosion had taken place, and Spencer Township Fire Department extinguished a small field fire that had started because of the explosion.

The investigation remains ongoing. The cause of the explosion and the name of the injured were not released.
