A Columbus man was arrested early Wednesday after he reported to police that he was being chased by another man.
Nathaniel Ayers, 33, was charged preliminarily with possession of marijuana and resisting law enforcement after the incident at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in a strip mall parking lot on National Road.
Columbus Police Patrolman Marc Hutcheson responded to the area after dispatchers received a call from a man who said he was being chased.
Hutcheson found Ayers, who appeared to the officer to be intoxicated, said Lt. Matt Myers, spokesman for the police department.
Police found no one else in the area and determined that Ayers was wanted on a warrant out of Oklahoma.
Ayers ran from Hutcheson but was taken into custody after a short chase, Myers said.
Oklahoma would not extradite Ayers on the warrant, but Ayers reportedly had marijuana in his backpack, police said.
He was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on the preliminary charges.
