A Jennings County man who was seriously injured in a crash that killed his female companion is fighting for his life in an Indianapolis hospital.
Steven D. Fletcher, 31, of rural Butlerville, was flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital following the one-vehicle crash Monday in southwest Decatur County. He was listed in critical condition Wednesday with head and internal injuries, according to hospital spokeswoman Lori Ewoldt.
Brooklynn N. Murray, 22, of rural Dupont, who was driving the car that crashed at the conclusion of a nine-mile police pursuit near the Jennings-Decatur County line, was pronounced dead at the scene. Their 2009 Honda first struck a utility pole and rock ditch before rolling several times in a farm field near Sardinia.
The couple were being pursued at speeds of up to 100 mph after they were spotted outside a vacant rental house near Forest Hill, Decatur County Sheriff Greg Allen said. The property owner also said Fletcher pointed a gun at him, Allen said.
