Man injured in incident at Columbus Container

Follow The Republic:

An adult male was severely injured after being caught in a press machine at Columbus Container, 3460 Commerce Drive, at about 11:45 a.m. this morning, according to Columbus Fire Department.

Columbus Fire Department spokesman Mike Wilson said the man was a Columbus Container employee. He was trapped for three to four minutes before being freed by employees, Wilson said.

Firefighters had sent a rescue squad with hydraulic tools that can be used in industrial accidents, Wilson said.

Paramedics and police arrived just as the man was being extricated from the machine, Sgt. Matt Harris, Columbus police spokesman said.

CPR was performed before the victim was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital by ambulance, Sgt. Matt Harris, Columbus police spokesman said.

The employee was then transported by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment, Harris said.

Columbus Container is a corrugated packaging products supplier.
