Ten high school seniors have been named finalists in Bartholomew County for two 2013 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships.
The scholarships, administered by Heritage Fund — The Community Foundation of Bartholomew County, will provide full tuition for four years to any Indiana college a winner chooses, plus a $900 annual stipend for required books and equipment, said Chrissy Alspaugh, scholarship manager for the Heritage Fund.
Finalists from Columbus East High School are Hunter Foist, Allison Newell and Delana Pearson. Finalists from Columbus North High School are Lindsey Britt, Clinton Cunningham, Evelyn Duron, Evelyn Malcomb, Zachary Ruehman, Erika Romero and Reid Wilson.
Heritage Fund received a total of 60 applications for this year’s scholarships, Alspaugh said. The Bartholomew County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Selection Committee interviews the finalists Friday and announces winners in March.
Bartholomew County finalists not selected each will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Heritage Fund, provided they attend a college or university in Indiana, Alspaugh said.
Lilly applicants were
evaluated on academic performance; scholastic activities, community involvement and employment; leadership; responses to short-answer questions and a 550-word essay; and two recommendations.
