COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Hope man convicted of stealing copper wire and tubing from a hardware store in northern Bartholomew County has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
John E. McIntosh, 45, of Hope, and another man were found guilty by a jury in December of burglary, a Class C felony, and theft, a Class D felony, in connection with an August burglary at the Country Bins store on West Road 550N.
Bartholomew Circuit Court Judge Stephen Heimann sentenced McIntosh Tuesday to seven years in prison for burglary and three years for theft. He will serve the two sentences at the same time.
Heimann found circumstances that aggravated McIntosh’s sentence, including that McIntosh was on parole at the time of the offenses, his lengthy criminal history, that McIntosh had been placed on probation previously and had it revoked six times and that treatment offered to him outside of prison has not been effective.
McIntosh’s criminal history includes eight juvenile adjudications and 14 adult convictions.
McIntosh’s co-defendant, Robert Owen Luetke, 44, of Columbus, was sentenced to 17 years in prison, which included a 10-year enhancement for being a habitual offender.
