McCue receives suspended sentence in neglect plea

The mother of a 19-month-old toddler who died while being cared for by her boyfriend will not serve any more time behind bars.

An eight-year sentence given Thursday afternoon to Rachel McCue, 22, was suspended by Bartholomew Circuit Court Judge Stephen Heimann.

On March 14, McCue pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent as a Class C felony in the Nov. 25, 2012 death of 19-month-old Evan Jack McCue.

A week earlier, McCue's former boyfriend — Thomas Gorski, 31 — was sentenced in connection with the child's death to 28 years in prison for neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, as well as attempted dealing in a narcotic drug.
