The first baby of the year born to Bartholomew County parents was one of four delivered at Columbus Regional Hospital on Wednesday.
Jerry Wayne Watkins III, son of Brittany Dewey and Jerry Wayne Watkins II, Columbus, is the couple’s first child and was born at 6:47 a.m., weighing 5 pounds, 15 ounces.
Dewey said the newborn actually arrived a bit early, as his due date was Jan. 10. But things progressed rapidly after she went into labor at her doctor’s office on New Year’s Eve.
The couple hope to take their newborn son home today.
The first newborn delivered Jan. 1 at CRH was born to an out-of-county couple, Chad and Katie Ford of Madison.
Their firstborn daughter, Lyla Mae, was born at 2:40 a.m. weighing 7 pounds, 1 ounce. Lyla proved punctual by arriving on her due date, which was Jan. 1, according to her mother.
Also arriving on New Year’s Day was Nichole Von Mae Hicks, daughter of Renee and Cary Hicks, Columbus, born at 12:20 p.m. and weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces.
