Most offices to close for upcoming holidays

Most local government offices and agencies will be closed and meetings will be canceled on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Among the closings:

Columbus City Hall and Bartholomew County offices will be closed all four days.

ColumBUS routes including Call-a-Bus will not run Christmas Eve, Christmas Day nor New Year’s Day. On New Year’s Eve, the routes will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

City trash collection will run as normal Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and trash should be at the curb by 7 a.m. Collections the rest of the week will be delayed a day, and no routes will run on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

Columbus City Utilities offices will be closed all four days. For problems with water or sewer service call 372-8861.

Extra trash collections for large items and up to 20 bags or boxes will begin Thursday and run through Jan. 10. For appliances, place at curb and call 376-2508 for pickup.

Columbus Board of Public Works and Safety will not meet this week. Board of Works meetings are normally held on Tuesdays, but the board will next meet Dec. 30, a Monday.

Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District offices and Recycling Center will be closed all four days. The Bartholomew County Landfill will be open Dec. 31, but closed for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
