Gary Bundura, 57, of Columbus, has been transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Columbus man suffered serious injuries this afternoon after his motorcycle collided with a sport-utility vehicle on 25th Street.
Gary Bundura, 57, was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital with what police said were head and leg injuries.
Bundura's motorcycle collided with an SUV driven by Kenneth Mundy, 41, of Columbus, at 12:18 p.m. today on 25th Street east of Pennsylvania Street.
Mundy had just left the Enterprise Rent-A-Car lot on 25th Street to go westbound and told police he did not see the motorcycle when he pulled out, said Lt. Matt Myers, spokesman for the Columbus Police Department.
Mundy looked again and saw the motorcycle but was unable to avoid the collision, Myers said.
He said Bundura applied his motorcycle's brakes but also could not avoid hitting the SUV.
Bundura was not wearing a helmet, Myers said.
Police shut down the eastbound lanes of 25th Street between Pennsylvania and Caldwell streets for about an hour to investigate the accident.
Columbus Police Patrolmen Eric Kapczynski and Zach Burbrink are investigating with assistance from Patrolman Ben Quesenbery, an accident reconstructionist.
