Music At Asbury series founder Chuck VanNatta always has tried to make his free programs as varied as possible — and different from other arts offerings in Columbus.
He just announced the first few offerings for the new year.
And they include two favorites for the mainstream concert series conducted at Columbus’ Asbury United Methodist Church, 1751 27th St.
The Indiana University Singing Hoosiers, long considered among the better show choirs nationally, return for a performance March 1. The ensemble, which has featured its share of Columbus residents through the years, has drawn more than 400 people to the gatherings more than once.
On April 12, IU’s Brass Choir will perform.
And May 3, Acoustic Eidolon, which features a husband-wife Celtic folk duo, highlights the sound of a cello blending with a double-neck guitar known as a “guit-jo.” The duo performed here in 2009 before an enthusiastic audience. The pair’s music has been featured on National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered.”
All concerts are at 7:30 p.m. Donations are welcomed to defray expenses.
