North boys golfers lead after first round; VanDeventer tied at top

FRANKLIN, Ind. — Columbus North leads by three strokes heading into Wednesday's final round of the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals, and two Bull Dogs are in contention for the individual champion title.

North fired a 299 in today's first round. Carmel is in second place with 302 strokes, Hamilton Southeastern is third at 303 and Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger and Pendleton Heights are tied for fourth at 305. Defending champion Westfield is sixth at 306.

The Bull Dogs' Michael VanDeventer is tied for the individual lead following a 2-under-par 70. Teammate Christian Fairbanks is in third place, one shot back at 71.
