COLUMBUS, Ind. — Daniel Ayers has become a professional baseball player.
The left-handed pitcher and recent Columbus North graduate, who was drafted in the 25th round of the Major League Baseball First Year Player draft, signed a contract this afternoon with the Baltimore Orioles while in Sarasota, Fla. If he passes his physical, he will report Wednesday to Sarasota for the start of the Gulf Coast League season.
Saturday is the deadline for drafted players to sign pro contracts.
