CONNERSVILLE — The Columbus North gymnasts came away victorious in their first invitational meet of the season, finishing first out of six teams in the Connersville Invitational.
The Bull Dogs scored a 107.775. Connersville finished second with a 104.45, and Noblesville took third with a 102.6.
Freshman Ashley Holliday led North with a first-place all-around finish with a 36.725. Holliday won the vault (9.55), and floor (9.2) and finished second on the bars (9.025).
Megan Heathcote finished second in the all-around with a 36.05. Heathcote won the bars (9.075) and took second on the floor (9.1) and third on the beam (9.05).
Katrina May finished second on the beam (9.075). Kaitlyn Barnes was eighth in the all-around (33.975).
Crusaders down Wolves
Macy Wingham and Kayleigh Reed each scored 22 points to lead Columbus Christian to a 55-38 win over Providence Cristo Rey in its regular-season finale.
“Kaleigh played her best game as a Crusader, no doubt,” Columbus Christian coach Ron Bridgewater said.
The Crusaders (16-8) led 24-12 at halftime and 43-22 after three quarters.
“Our defensive pressure was good, especially in the first half,” Bridgewater said.
“We struggled a little
bit early offensively because we went with a different lineup. I switched things up a little bit, rewarding some players who had played well in practice.”
Bedford routs Jennings
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County hit 10 3-pointers, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a Bedford North Lawrence avalanche in a 92-61 loss in the semifinals of the Jennings Sectional.
The Class 4A No. 2 Stars (21-1) jumped out to a 32-11 lead after one quarter and led 53-24 at halftime. BNL shot
69 percent (9-of-13) from 3-point range.
Sidney Gerkin led the Panthers (9-11) with 20 points. Emily Ertel added 14 points and nine rebounds.
Crusaders suffer loss
Columbus Christian ran into a hot-shooting Providence Cristo Rey team and fell 77-51.
Josh Miracle led the Crusaders (24-4) with 19 points. Dalane Shaull
Lancers top Panthers
EDINBURGH — Edinburgh led by only seven after three quarters before pulling away in the fourth for a 60-44 Mid-Hoosier Conference win over Knightstown.
Collin Hoskins led the Lancers (9-6, 3-3) with 14 points. Matt Heagy and Bobby Simpson each added 13.
Stars knock off Owls
BEDFORD — Seymour was within seven going into the fourth quarter, but Bedford North Lawrence pulled away for a 54-40 Hoosier Hills Conference win.
Chase Salmon led the Owls (2-13, 0-7) with 12 points. Toriek Miller added 11.
