Columbus North is one of 20 high school marching bands that will advance to Saturday’s Indiana State School Music Association Class A semi-state competition.
The Sound of North, with more than 100 members, earned that right Saturday evening at Center Grove High School when competing against 10 other Class A bands in the ISSMA regional contest, North Band Director Bill Stultz said.
“While we feel good about our performance Saturday, we’ve got room for improvement,” Stultz said Sunday. “We will try to get better as we go on with practices this week.”
This Saturday’s semi-state competition, which will include 10 bands from northern Indiana and an equal number from the southern half of the state, will be held at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. As of Sunday afternoon, the performance times had not been released.
Columbus East’s Olympian Spirit Marching Band did not perform this past weekend. However, it achieved a gold rating in the Oct. 12 Indiana State School Music Association Scholastic Class Marching Band contest at Plainfield High School, which earned the band a berth in Saturday’s Scholastic Marching Band Finals at Lawrence High School in Indianapolis.
