An intake officer from Bartholomew County Youth Services Center has earned state recognition for her work with area youth.
Cathy Vawter, employed in some capacity at the Youth Services Center since 1997, was named the 2014 Indiana Detention Care Worker of the Year.
“Cathy’s attitude towards serving at-risk youth and their families is one of diligence, determination and dedication. Cathy seems to see potential in every youth regardless of their situation, and she just seems to never lose hope for any youth. Cathy is articulate in her organization and management skills and she is usually the first supervisor to volunteer for projects,” Bartholomew
County Youth Services Center Director Anita Biehle said.
Vawter is a supervisor at the center and also teaches a class to the parents of high-risk youth.
“Cathy is a very strong member of the team at Bartholomew County Youth Services Center and is dedicated to the children that use our facility. Cathy helps each child strive to attain their greatest potential regardless of their situation,” Court Services Director Brad Barnes said.
Recipients of the award must be full-time employees working with youth in some capacity and nominated by their supervisor. The Indiana Juvenile Detention Center Association’s executive board chooses the winner.
