Olympians trounce Panthers in straight sets

The Columbus East girls volleyball team continued to roll along on Monday with a 25-17, 25-11, 25-22 victory against visiting Bloomington South.

Carley Robertson led the way for the Olympians with 12 kills, and Sara Bean added 11 kills.

Faith Myers had 38 assists for East, while Alexa Husmann-Miller added 13 digs and six aces, and Courtney Ping had seven digs.

East is now 17-2 overall.

The Olympians junior varsity squad dropped a 25-18, 25-17 decision to Bloomington South. Courtney Frost had five kills, Kiersten Warren and Michaela Griffey each had one block, and Caitlyn Williams added nine digs.

East’s freshmen dropped a 25-19, 19-25, 15-7 decision to Bloomington South. Brooke Stadler and Katie Mack each had eight kills.

Edinburgh wins thriller

WALDRON — With Abby Bryant having a fantastic night with 32 kills and Jennifer Stinson adding 27 kills, Edinburgh finished with a rush to beat host Waldron 25-13, 17-25, 25-27, 25-14, 15-7.

Edinburgh, 18-5, was down two sets to one when Bryant and Stinson took over.

Maile Cox was a major factor in Edinburgh’s comeback with 53 assists.

Stuckwisch leads Trinity in win

SEYMOUR — Sarah Stuckwisch set the tempo for Monday night’s volleyball match at the start of the first set.

The Trinity Lutheran senior middle hitter scored kills on the first two points of the opening set, and she pretty much owned the net all night in helping the Class A No. 3 Cougars defeat Oldenburg Academy 25-8, 25-10, 25-16 in the Bollinger Athletic Complex.

The Cougars have won six straight matches and are 20-2 for the season.

Boys tennis

Olympians topple East Central

The Columbus East boys tennis team cruised past East Central 4-1 in the last tune-up before the sectional tournament begins on Thursday against Columbus North.

East’s Seth Meyer defeated Seth Hubland at No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-2 and Jonathan James beat Jason Bosse 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

The Olympians’ Will Boils dropped a 7-5, 6-4 match to James Brand at No. 3 singles.

In doubles, East’s Matt Fuehne and Alex Pegram beat East Central’s Nathan McCann and Tyler Wilson 6-3, 6-0 while Connor Jensen and Alex Galle defeated Kameron Gick and Michael McCann 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

East is 13-3 on the season.

Girls soccer

Eagles top Greenwood Christian

NASHVILLE — Chelsea Smith scored twice, and Rachel Smith added another goal as Brown County downed visiting Greenwood Christian 3-1 on Monday.

Lennon Lacy-Connell and Madison Morris picked up assists for Brown County.

Owls triumph on senior night

SEYMOUR — For most of Monday night’s Hoosier Hills Conference match against Madison, members of the Seymour girls soccer team were cheering on the seniors.

None of the seniors scored, but one of them, Lindsay Swindell, assisted on one of Clare Lenart’s two goals, and Seymour won 4-0.
