A one-vehicle crash near Bethel Village claimed the life of an 18-year-old woman shortly before noon today.

The driver was Taylor Morgan Compton, Columbus, who was a recent Columbus North High School graduate, Larry Fisher, Bartholomew County coroner, said.

Compton was eastbound on Deaver Road when the right wheels on her green Oldsmobile Intrigue went off the pavement about a quarter-mile east of County Road 150 West, investigating officer Brian Kushman of the Columbus Police Department said.

As she attempted to gain control of the car, she apparently over-corrected and the vehicle slid sidewise into an electrical utility pole, Kushman said.

The car came to rest in a soybean field.

Deaver Road has reopened between roads 50W and 150W as crews from Duke Energy have completed repairs to the pole.
