It’s back-to-school time for students throughout the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. and private schools in Bartholomew County. Most will start school Monday.
BCSC students who will ride buses can check their schedule online at bcsc.k12.in.us and click on the school bus on Thursday. Call 376-4246.
Here is a list of orientations and class-schedule pickups that you and your children will not want to miss:
Columbus East High School
Books and schedules for all classes may be picked up between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. today, Thursday and Friday at the bookstore. Freshmen and new students whose last names begin with A through L will pick theirs up between 9 and 11:30 a.m., while those whose last names begin with M through Z will pick theirs up between 12:30 and 3 p.m. New students and their parents may attend a parent meeting between 6 and 7 p.m. Thursday and between noon and 1 p.m. Friday, which is another option for children to pick up their books.
Columbus North High School
Freshman orientation 9 to 11 a.m. today in the auditorium. Freshmen may pick up their class schedules and books at that time. Sophomores, juniors and seniors may pick up their schedules and books between 10:45 a.m. and 2 p.m. and between 7:45 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday. Freshmen who missed orientation may participate during either upper class events.
Columbus Signature Academy — New Tech
Fresh Fest 2012 from 7 to 10 p.m. today, during which time freshmen may pick up their schedules. Includes carnival games, tours, activities and snacks. Open to freshmen only. Bring pencils for United Way school supply drive.
Northside Middle School
Schedule pickup and enrollment 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. State-required health screenings will happen the same day for seventh- and eighth-graders only. Open house 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Parents and students should be in their children’s first-period class by those times. No book pickup. They get those in their classes on first day of school. Parents should bring their children’s proof of residency, birth certificates and immunization records.
Central Middle School
Schedule pickup noon to 6 p.m. today. Back to School Night, orientation and open house 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday. Parents will follow their students’ schedules and will report to their first-period class at 6:30 p.m.
McDowell Education Center
McDowell offers free morning, afternoon and evening GED preparation classes. To enroll, students must attend an orientation to assess their academic level. Upcoming daytime dates are 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Aug. 20. Evening dates 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Aug. 21.
McDowell offers free morning and evening English as a second language classes. To enroll, students must attend an orientation to assess their academic levels. Upcoming daytime dates are 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 15 and 29. Evening dates are 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 16 and 30.
Orientations meet in Unit B, Room 6. Individuals are asked to register in advance at mcdowelledu.org or by calling 376-4451.
International School of Columbus
Open house 5:30 p.m. Aug. 16. Event open to students and parents.
Columbus Christian School
Schedule pickup starts at 6 p.m. Thursday during open house for all students.
St. Bartholomew Catholic School
Ice cream social 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday. Back to School Night open house on Aug. 8 starts at 6 p.m. for parents of seventh- and eighth-graders and 7 p.m. for parents of first- through fifth-graders. The Back to School Night open house for sixth-grade parents is at 7 p.m. Aug. 9.
