A Columbus resident wanted on two warrants also faces a drug charge after being discovered unconscious in a vacant house, police said.
Paula J. Winkel, 42, of 3012 DeSoto Way, was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony. She was wanted on warrants for failure to appear in court related to an October 2010 arrest for driving while intoxicated and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
At 6:56 p.m. Tuesday, police were notified of a suspected drug overdose at a residence undergoing renovations near 18th and Elm streets. When officers arrived, a man told them he returned to the house after a half-hour absence and discovered Winkel unresponsive and barely breathing, said Columbus Police Department spokesman Lt. Matt Myers.
Once the Everroad Park West resident was placed in the ambulance, officers found a plastic cellphone wrapper where Winkel was sitting that contained four small balloons that contained heroin, Myers said.
