Panthers pummel Pirates on mats

NORTH VERNON — The host Jennings County wrestling team flexed its muscles, knocking off previously unbeaten Greensburg 57-18 on Thursday.

The Panthers, who ran their dual meet record to 7-0, were led by 220-pounder Colton Castetter, who decisioned highly-regarded Drew Neisius 4-1 in overtime.

Castetter scored a one-point escape with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the match at 1-1. After a scoreless first period of overtime, Castetter received a penalty point and scored two near-fall points for the win.

Jennings County 113-pounder Hunter Ray, 132-pounder Clayton Capes, 138-pounder Anthony Egelking, 145-pounder Andrew Herrin, 152-pounder Colton Pifer and 195-pounder Jacob Cheesebrew all scored pins.

J.T. Gilliam won 4-1 over Joe Buening at 170 and Peyton Shepherd notched a 1-0 victory over Colten Black at 182 for the Panthers.

Greensburg is 3-1.

Crusaders rout Lions

Columbus Christian collected 22 steals in rolling to a 69-41 win over Bloomington Lighthouse.

“We went over some stuff this week in practice and took away some of their set plays, like the high screen and roll,” Columbus Christian coach Kevin Roth said. “They liked to do some back-door stuff, and we got a lot of steals. That helped us get off to a good start.”

Josh Miracle led the Crusaders (10-1) with 23 points and eight steals. Dalane Shaull scored 17 points, and Austin Straub added 10.

Crusaders fall to Lions

Columbus Christian led by two at halftime, but Bloomington Lighthouse rallied for a 57-50 win.

Tori Robinson scored a career-high 25 points and added 16 rebounds and three blocked shots to lead the Crusaders.

“She was dominant tonight,” Columbus Christian coach Ron Bridgewater said. “They had no answer for her.”

Macy Wingham had 15 points, four assists and four steals for the Crusaders (7-3).

Lancers notch 1st victory

GREENWOOD — Edinburgh forced 55 Greenwood Christian turnovers in rolling to its first win of the season, a 79-36 decision.

Mara Cox scored 33 points to lead

the Lancers (1-6). Brianna Schooler added 18.
