A 27-year-old woman was killed Sept. 5 on State Road 135 in Brown County while riding a motorcycle driven by her boyfriend.
Jennifer Garrison died in the crash in the 9200 block, Brown County Chief Deputy Coroner Earl Piper said.
The Shelby County woman was a passenger on a motorcycle that was southbound on the highway between Fruitdale and the Morgan-Brown county line.
Brown County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Mike Moore reported that the driver, 33-year-old William Lambert, was passing other vehicles in a no-passing zone.
At a hill crest, the motorcycle met a northbound pickup truck driven by 56-year-old Allen Rutter of Morgantown. The officer reported that Lambert tried to avoid a collision and lost control of the motorcycle in the northbound lane.
The motorcycle went down, throwing Lambert and Garrison into the road, and slid more than 100 feet.
Rutter swerved to avoid the motorcycle, hitting Garrison, Moore said. The pickup then hit a tree in a nearby yard, Piper said.
Garrison was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lambert was up and walking when Piper arrived. Moore said he was treated for a shoulder injury at a hospital and released.
He also was given a toxicology screen, which is standard for drivers in fatal crashes.
Rutter was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin with neck and back pain, Piper said.
Neither the motorcycle driver nor the passenger was wearing a helmet, Piper said.
