What is it?: You can take pictures within the app or use one of the photos taken with your phone, manipulate the photo with one of 18 different filter options, and share them.

Why is it your favorite?: I use it to alter photos of my children. I love to scrapbook and I can’t wait to print my Instagram photos.

How often do you use it?: About once a month.

App: NFL mobile

Cost: Free

Why is it your favorite?: I’m a big football fan and I’m really into fantasy football. The app comes with NFL Red Zone, so I can stream several games at the same time. And, unlike with cable, there’s no charge on the app for the Red Zone.

How often do you use it?: At least twice a day.

Any downside?: It will drain battery life because it’s constantly streaming.

Why is it your favorite?: It allows me to connect with family and friends. I’m able to keep up with my kids in college, one is in Los Angeles, Calif., one is in Evansville and another is in Bloomington. I can also watch my business page and what’s going on there.

How often do you use it?: I’m on it daily.

What is it?: If you choose a county, it gives you information about the property (deeded owner name, location and aerial view).

How often do you use the app?: Regularly

Does it have a downside?: Yeah, having to pay for a subscription to public information.

What does it do?: It tells you what types of food and restaurant by name are nearby.

How did you discover it?: Another soccer mom recommended it.

How often do you use it?: Frequently when traveling out of town.

Chad Stader

App: Handcent SMS

Cost: Free

What is it?: It’s a texting app. It replaces the built in texting app included with the device and allows you to modify everything about it, including the colors, fonts, skins, and notification options. It also adds new functions, like a pop-up box so you can reply to text messages without unlocking your phone or leaving the app you’re using.

Any downside?: It takes a while to set up the way you want, and there’s a huge amount of settings.
