Planning bids accepted for Columbus ski lakes, sports complex

Three companies will spend two to three months creating design documents for the Fourth Street and outdoor sports center construction projects.

Columbus Redevelopment Commission accepted the fee proposals of Janssen & Spaans Engineering, Ratio Architects and Christopher B. Burke Engineering during a special meeting Tuesday in which no other action was taken.

The proposals total about $700,000, which will be paid with Tax-Increment Financing revenues.

Commissioners will use the resulting documents to help determine if the projects are worth pursuing, commission Executive Director Ed Curtin said.

If one or both projects clear that step, commissioners would give the documents to all companies interested in bidding for actual construction.

Curtin said he hopes the design documents are finished in September so the projects can begin, assuming that is how the commissioners want to proceed.
