Police: Drugs bound for inmate

A Hope woman was arrested Tuesday, accused of attempting to send drugs to her boyfriend while he was in the Bartholomew County Jail.

Christina A. White, 32, Hope, is facing felony charges of attempting to deal a controlled substance and trafficking with an inmate. She’s being accused of trying to sneak Suboxone, a narcotic medication intended to treat opiate dependence, to Robert H. Everroad, 32, also of Hope, in mid-August.

Alert corrections officers stifled the attempt.

“Anything that comes up to the facility is searched,” said Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Maj. Todd Noblitt. “During the course of doing their job, they located the contraband. People take great steps to try and hide whatever they send in. But our staff is trained to look for those types of things and determine what’s not appropriate.”

Everroad, who has been moved to the Indiana Department of Corrections, has been charged with felony counts of attempting to deal a controlled substance and trafficking with an inmate. He’s expected to be released from the Indiana Department of Corrections in 2014.

“After his time is up, he’ll be brought back to Bartholomew County to stand those charges,” Noblitt said.

White is being held on a $100,000 bond.
